So, happy Father's Day to all the dads out there! This card got sent up to Virginia to my dad... unfortunately, I was not very timely with mailing it out, so he hasn't gotten it yet!
So let's dive in to the details...
INSTRUCTIONS:
(I started with a different paper that was a glossy black matte, but the embossing ink just didn't seem to stick to it right. So I chose...) a regular black cardstock that had weave texture by Craft Perfect. I cut it down to a 4" X 5.25" panel with my trimmer.
I placed my candy stripes stencil from My Favorite Things over the paper, and I forgot to use Pixie Spray. I put my Brutus Monroe embossing ink pad straight on the stencil, and as you may have guessed, the ink smooshed under the stencil and the lines were not straight. However, after I put ultra thick embossing powder on it, and heated that bad boy up, I really liked the texture and messiness to it! But it still seemed to be missing something.
I pulled out some Heidi Swapp sheer shine spray that I got on clearance at Michaels last year, gave a few sprays to the panel in my splatter box, and let it dry. Sometimes, mediums resist embossing, but this spray stuck everywhere I sprayed it, and I quite liked it!
Then using Neenah cardstock, I die cut the "hey" sentiment, and then the letters for "dad" from the in-stitches alphabet dies, both from My Favorite Things. I used two rectangle foundations dies from my Mini Evolution Brutus Monroe to create the frame. I used my Spellbinders Platinum 6 for the bigger cuts, and my Mini Evolution (that I got for $14.99 on clearance at Tuesday Morning, ya'll!) for the letters. Of course, I had to crank out the "D" twice.
I stamped the "you're the best" from the Itty Bitty Basics sentiments from My Favorite Things, which I actually got for free with an order over $60 on their site! I used Brutus Monroe detail ink and cut it down with my trimmer. I used my black Tombow to color the edges before using black distress ink with a blending tool around the boarder.
I glued the black panel on an A2 size card base of Neenah cardstock (made with my trimmer and bira scoring tool) with a mix of E6000 spray and Bearly Arts glue. I then used the glue to add the frame and the remaining die cuts.
For the sentiment, I popped it up with Dollar Tree foam tape, and I used my Tombow again to color the sides of the tape black so it matched the edges of the sentiment.
Lastly, inside the card (not pictured), I used the “happy father’s day” stamp from Heffy Doodle's Classic Sentiments stamps with black ink and
And that's all folks! Typing that out made me thing it wasn't really as hard as I thought, but it took me a while just because I kept having to stop and think about what I wanted to do! Now hopefully my dad gets this card soon!
